Dear Parent:

Good nutrition and physical activity go hand in hand with building fitness. Our Web nutrition site is exploring food needs of physically active youth. Your youth may be involved in an organized sports program or just physically active on their own time. We hope they are paying attention to their food needs since they are at a time when they are growing rapidly and need extra energy.

It's important that youth follow a sensible food guide-such as the Food Guide Pyramid. Ask your youth about the Food Guide Pyramid to see what he or she is learning. As a parent you can also help by keeping foods stocked in your kitchen that fall into one of the five basic food groups:

 Breads and cereals
 Vegetables
 Fruits
 Milk, cheese and yogurt
Meat, Chicken, Fish, Eggs, Beans and Nuts

Healthy Eating to you, too!!
